Blindsided

She was blindsided.

It’s as though she’s been punched in the gut. All the air has left her body and she cannot catch her breath. Does she even want to catch her breath? Because if she breathes, then it is real. It really happened. And she’s not sure she can take it being real.

But it is real.

She feels nothing but the pain of a broken heart. The confusion of why this happened. The fear of the unknown. The uncertainty of the future. She has always been able to control things. But this. This she cannot control. This she cannot fix. She feels empty. Dead inside. Unable to sleep. Unwilling to eat. Will life ever be the same? Will she ever be happy again?

Then she remembers….

Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

So she asks….

“God, why did this happen?”

God: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

And she seeks…

“So, what do I do Lord?”

God: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to me.”

Then she knocks…

“God, I love, honor, and worship You. I ask for your help. I cannot fix this.”

God: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

And she knocks again…

“But Lord, I am so afraid.”

God: “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

And again she knocks…

“Father, I am asking. I am seeking with all my heart. I am knocking. I need Your help.”

God: “The righteous cry out, and I hear them; I deliver them from all their troubles. I am close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit.”

Then she feels it. That peace that passes understanding. The Comforter has come. God hears her. He sees her. He has gone before her. He will not forsake her. He will help her. She feels stronger. Her faith grows. She believes God’s word and puts her trust in Him. She lets herself breathe, knowing it is real. But also knowing she can take it.

Because God is with her.

Love and hugs to my sisters who have been blindsided. You are not alone.
